Hi Tim,
The usual cause of that sort of problem is that you have a space at the end of your file's name (that is, that your file is actually named xyz.shtml(space) ); some FTP servers turn spaces in file names to underscores. (It would be the server doing this, not Fetch.)
So I'd check and see if there's a space at the end of your file's name on your Mac, and if so, delete the space, and then try uploading and see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn't seem to be the case, let us know and we'll investigate further.

When uploading xyz.shtml, the file shows up on the server as xyz.shtml_ which then has to be renamed. How do I prevent this?
