Fetch 4.0.3 glitch (8 posts)

    Running 10.4.10.

Every time I launch Fetch, I get the "you are opening this for the first time..." dialog box. I tossed prefs, and I tossed the LaunchServices pref. Any other things anyone can think of? Thanks.

    Hi,

We're sorry you're having a problem with Fetch.

When you say you "tossed the LaunchServices pref," do you mean you just deleted the "com.apple.LaunchServices.plist" in your Preferences folder, or did you do more than that?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Unfortunately, just deleting the Launch Services preferences doesn't completely reset Launch Services.

We have a script that will completely rebuild your Launch Services database, which is what you probably need to do.

You can download the script from here:

    http://getfetch.com/LaunchServicesFirstAid.zip

    Then you should:

    * Open the zip archive to decompress it, if necessary.
    * Open the LaunchServicesFirstAid script application.
    * The script will ask you if you want to rebuild your Launch Services database. Click "Yes".
    * Wait. This may take several minutes.
    * The script will display confirmation when it's done.

The next time you open Fetch, it will warn you that it is being opened for the first time; however, the next time you open Fetch after that, it should hopefully stop asking. (So, to check if the problem is solved, open Fetch, quit Fetch, and then open it again.)

Also note that after you run this script, you may be warned once by *all* applications that you are opening them for the first time, even though it is not the first time you have opened them. This is normal. The next time you open the same application, you should not be warned again.

Please let us know if this fixes your problem, or if you have any questions about the above.

    Thanks,

I used a similar script before (used yours, too). Same results. The window keeps coming up. Thanks.

    Hi,

We're sorry to hear that didn't help.

Is Fetch the only application you're having this problem with?

The next thing I would try is downloaded a new copy of Fetch 4.0.3.

    (1) Quit Fetch.
    (2) Put the Fetch 4.0.3 application in the Trash.
    (3) Empty the Trash.
    (4) Go to this webpage: http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/downloads.html
    (5) Download Fetch 4.0.3 for Mac OS X.
    (6) Copy the newly downloaded copy of Fetch to the Applications folder.
    (7) Try running Fetch twice and see if the problem is fixed.

Let us know if that helps.

    Thanks,
