Fetch 5.1b2, a new public beta test preview of Fetch 5.1, is now available for downloading.

    For 5.1b2 we:

    * Fixed problems converting shortcuts from older versions of Fetch
    * Changed shortcuts to always store passwords in the keychain (passwords stored in shortcuts will be moved to the keychain when you first run Fetch 5.1)
    * Fixed problems where the Recent toolbar button's menu would be blank or show incorrect contents

Please give this beta release a try, especially if you have Intel hardware, and let us know what you think. You can download it from:

    http://getfetch.com/Fetch_5.1b2.dmg

For more information, see the Fetch 5 Read Me on the disk image or the Fetch 5 Release Notes topic in Fetch Help.

Please send feedback on this release to fetch-beta-feedback at fetchsoftworks dot com.

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

I'm using a new Intel 20" iMac. For some reason, when I double click on Fetch, it tries to launch but doesn't... nothing happens.

I'd try moving the following files out of your Preferences folder, and then trying to run Fetch:

    com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist
    Fetch Cache
    Fetch Prefs
    Fetch Shortcuts

If that does not work, could you look in the Library > Logs > CrashReporter folder for a file named "Fetch.crash.log"? If you find one, please send it to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com.

    Thanks,

Thanks, that worked. I can now launch Fetch again! Any way to safely get back the settings or is it likely the backup is corrupted?

Could you create an archive of the files (put them in a folder, Control-click on the folder and choose Create an archive) and mail that to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com? Then we'll see if we can reproduce and fix the problem. And we'll see if we can recover your settings.

    Thanks,

Seems to work fine so far, but the widget did not auto-install on first (or second or third...) use.

I'm using Fetch 5.1b2 in 10.4.4 on a new 17" iMac Core Duo.

The widget is not currently available on Intel Macs. We're working on fixing that.

I cannot get the widget to auto-install. At all. Ideas? Also, if I pull it from package contents (copy it) and install it that way, it shows up, but says it's failed to load properly so to contact Fecth support...

I've been using 5.1b2 for a while with no issues - everythign seems to work great. I was trying out the widget today, though, and it gives me this message:

"Could not upload because Fetch could not be found. Please contact Fetch support."

My apologies if this is covered elsewhere. I may have overlooked it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi MMMikey,

No, that hasn't been covered elsewhere.

Could you please try this? In the Fetch application, choose Install Dashboard Widget from the File menu. Then go to the Dashboard and see if the widget is fixed.

    Let us know. Thanks,

    Scott,

Thanks for your reply. I had already thought of this as a possible fix, but no dice. I have attempted to reinstall the widget in this way a couple of times, but keep encountering the same error.

If you need any other info from me, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

If you've got a chance, could you do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Go to Dashboard and use the "Manage Widgets" feature to remove the Fetch widget.
    * Run Fetch again, which should install a fresh copy of the widget.
    * Show Dashboard.
    * Create an instance of the Fetch widget by dragging it out of the widget bar.
    * If the Fetch widget shows an error at this point, skip the next two steps.
    * Configure the widget with a shortcut or recent connection.
    * Try an upload.
    * Assuming you get the error again, exit Dashboard.
    * Run the Console application (in the "Utilities" folder of your "Applications" folder).
    * Choose "Open Console Log" from the File menu.
    * Please email us the contents of the console.log window (more information about what went wrong should be listed in the console log).

Please send the email (with a short reminder of the problem) to fetch-beta-feedback at fetchsoftworks dot com .

Whew, I know that's a lot of steps, but the information would be valuable to us. Let us know if you have any questions about the above.

Thanks for your time and help,

    Scott,

Thanks again for the reply. I followed all of these steps and got the error message again - but this time the file uploaded correctly regardless. I closed and reopened the widget and everything is now working as expected.

If the problem reoccurs for some reason, I'll forward along the Console log.

    Hi,

So, even though the widget was displaying an error, when you dragged a file to it, it uploaded the file to the correct location anyway?

    Thanks,
