Fetch 5.1b2 does not start (15 posts)

I have an iMac Intel and downloaded Fetch 5.1b2.
I also have a "student licence" that worked with 5.0 etc (don't know if this matters, I just report it here).

When I run fetch I get this error:

Apr 14 11:51:35 Dome3 Fetch 5.1b2 (5B119): The action could not be completed because an error has occurred. (Mac OS error -50.)n

Since it was not very informative (at least for me) I run Fetch in a gdb session: the problem is here
    0x8fe01010 in __dyld__dyld_start ()

    What can I do?

    This is the full log.

    Hi,

    Please try the following:

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move both the "com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.Shortcuts.plist" and "Fetch Shortcuts" files to the Desktop.
    * Run Fetch again.

Please let us know if this fixes the problem or not.

If it does, we'd like to take a look at those preferences files - create either a StuffIt or Finder archive of them and mail them to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com - and we can advise you on how to get the shortcuts back into Fetch.

If that does not fix the problem, we'll investigate further.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

I moved away *all* the preferences. Including Fetch Prefs out and it worked.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

We're glad to hear you got it working again.

If possible, please send all the prefs to us so we can look into it and hopefully fix the problem for Fetch 5.1 final.

    Thanks,

Hi, I'm having this problem as well, but your suggestion of removing the preferences files and restarting did not resolve it (it still won't start).

I'm running MacBook Pro, Tiger. I have Fetch 4 already on my hard drive and it has been functioning well. Any thoughts?

    Hi achealey,

Could you please try the following?

    * Make sure Fetch 4 is not running.
    * Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the file named "Fetch Prefs" to the Desktop.
    * Trying running Fetch 5.1b2 again.

If that fixes the problem, please let us know and please send the Fetch Prefs file for analysis to:

    bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com

along with a short description of the problem it fixed.

If that does not fix it, let us know and we'll investigate further.

    Thanks,

Excellent. This worked and I have sent the Fetch Prefs file to you for analysis.
It seems to be working fine in "try" mode.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

Great, we're glad to hear it's working and thanks for sending us the file.

We think we've found the problem and it should be fixed in the next release of Fetch.

    Best,

I am having this same problem of error -50 when trying to download files through Fetch. However there are no files mentioning Fetch in the Library > Preferences. Is there some other problem that could cause this error?

    Thanks.

    Hi Lauren,

What version of Fetch do you have, and what version of Mac OS X? You can get the Fetch version number by choosing "About Fetch" from the Fetch menu. You can get the OS X version number by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple menu.

    Thanks,

I have Fetch 5.7.3 and Mac OS 10.8.3. I believe there is something wrong with the files because I get an error with FileZilla as well. I also tried downloading a zip file from my hosting provider, but I get an error when I try to unzip it. Any idea what could be wrong with the files?

They could be corrupted. I would contact the people who created the files.

The hosting company is telling me nothing is wrong, but I'm finding it hard to believe them. Thanks for your help.
