We're pleased to announce that Fetch 5.6, with new support to keep your file transfers moving, is now available. The major improvements in this release are:

    • Added automatic resume of stalled or failed downloads
    • Improved automatic resume of uploads in various circumstances

For a complete list of changes between Fetch 5.6 and our previous release, Fetch 5.5.3, see the Fetch 5.6 Release Notes.

Fetch 5.6 also includes all the improvements of Fetch 5.5 as well, such as:

    • Improved Edit command — you can now edit any kind of file using any application and the changes will automatically be saved back to the server
    • Added Quick Look support for previewing files on servers (Mac OS X 10.5 and later only)
    • Added automatic resume of stalled or failed uploads
    • Made Get Info quicker by not calculating folder sizes until you ask for them
    • Support for gestures on laptop trackpads
    • Redesigned Recent Folders menu to improve readability and display of folder hierarchy
    • Changed file list to remember the last sorting choice
    • And dozens of other fixes and improvements; see the overall list of Fetch 5.6 changes for a complete list

Upgrades are free for registered users of Fetch 5.5 or later, and for customers who purchased Fetch after January 28, 2009. You can download Fetch 5.6 free of charge and your serial number will work with it.

Otherwise, registered users of any version of Fetch 5.3.1 or earlier can upgrade to Fetch 5.6 for the discounted price of $10. For more information, see our purchasing page.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,

After I upgraded to 5.6, whenever I open Fetch the computer must be offline (as in not connected to the internet) otherwise it hangs and I get the spinning wheel until I force quit, then open it as I just mentioned.

Can you tell me why this is?

    Hi BillRayDrums,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with Fetch 5.6. That is not a problem we've heard of before, but we'd certainly like to investigate it and try to get it fixed for you.

We'll need some more information to diagnose the problem.

Could you tell us which version of Mac OS X you're using?

When you say you must take the computer offline, do you mean you disconnect the Ethernet cable, or turn Airport off, or something else?

And then could you please do the following?

    * Make sure the computer is online.
    * Open Fetch.
    * Once Fetch starts showing the rainbow cursor, proceed to the next step.
    * Open your Applications folder.
    * Open the Utilities folder.
    * Open the Activity Monitor application.
    * Go to the Window menu, and choose Activity Monitor.
    * Find Fetch in the list of processes - if you are having trouble finding it, type "Fetch" (without quotes) into the Filter field to show only Fetch in the list.
    * Select the Fetch entry, and click the Inspect button.
    * In the new window that appears, click the Sample button.
    * Click Save... to save the sample.
    * Send the saved file, along with a short description of your problem, to us at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .

Then we'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi Scott,
We are having difficulties logging in again to FETCH and retrieving all our files. We are still waiting to hear back from customer support.
I went ahead and also upgraded again. We have been a customer since 2008 at G Design Company.

Can you have customer support contact us as soon as possible this morning in New York? We have clients waiting.

    Thank you.
    Gail

    Hello Gail,

I have also followed up with you by email.

While we try to answer questions promptly (within 1 business day if possible), it is not always possible for us to answer questions instantaneously.

In your case, your problem almost certainly not with Fetch. Rejected password errors indicates that the server is not accepting your username or password. If you receive an error like this when trying to connect to a server that you've previously connected to successfully, usually this indicates a problem with the server.

Fetch is not involved in deciding whether your password is correct or not; Fetch sends what you type as your password to the server, and either the server says the password is okay, and allows Fetch to connect; or the server rejects the password and sends back an error message, which Fetch then reports to you.

So you should contact the company or people who run the server you are trying to connect to (such as your hosting company, your system administrator, or the people you are working with) and ask them to look into the problem.

If they confirm that there is not a problem with the server, verify your hostname, username, and password with them, and then double-check what you've entered in the New Connection dialog or the shortcut.

Fetch Softworks is not a hosting provider - we do not run or maintain the server you are trying to connect to, or run any servers for customers, so we do not have access to the information you need to use to connect or the ability to fix this problem. We just make Fetch, software that lets you move files from your Macintosh to servers run by other companies or people.

If you still have questions after talking to the people who run the server, please let us know.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

I'm having the same "can not connect to server" error message. And it's with all my FTP clients so I find it hard to believe it's client server issue. I've also confirmed with one client and their server is fine. All the information I enter in is correct too. So what's the solution?

    Kara,

The next time you are not able to connect with Fetch could you then choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the complete window contents here? I'll see what I can figure out.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I didn't include that before. Here you go:

Fetch 5.6 (5F64) Intel running on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) Intel English
StuffIt Engine 0x820, StuffIt SDK Version 10.1.1b1
    Partial serial FETCH55001-VMGK-7TN5 T
Connecting to ftp.arkansasgraphics.com port 21 (Mac OS X firewall is blocking connections (except for essential services)) (7/1/10 4:04 PM)
An FTP connection to “ftp.arkansasgraphics.com” could not be opened because the server could not be found. (Check that you entered the correct hostname.)

Nothing has been done to our firewall, that I'm aware of.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm able to connect to ftp.arkansasgraphics.com (far enough for the server to tell me that I know know the password), so it looks like this is a problem with your Internet connection. I would recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider and telling them that you can't make FTP connections to ftp.arkansasgraphics.com.

    Thanks,

I just downloaded Fetch 5.6 and I get an error message "The action could not be completed because an error occurred. (Mac OS - error 108).

I tried deleting the file and download it again; but it does not allow me to delete it. When I try to delete it I get the following message "The item "Fetch" can't be moved to the Trash because it's open." yet everything is closed.

I would greatly appreciate your help!

    Thanks!

    Hi j88,

I would recommend restarting your computer, and then trying again. Does that resolve the error?

    Thanks,

I tried that and it did not resolve the problem. Do you have any other suggestions?

When exactly do you see the -108 error -- when you run Fetch? When you try to make a connection?

    Thanks,

I have the mac bookpro Mac OS X and the latest version of fetch...5.6

If you choose "About this Mac" from the Apple menu it should say what version of Mac OS X you have (e.g. 10.4.11).

    Posted 13 years ago #

  • j88 Member

It says that the Model Identifier: MacbookPro 7,1.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Could you send an email to bugs@fetchsoftworks.com and mention that you are j88 on the message board? I'd like to gather some more information about this problem, and it would be easier to do that by email.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I just installed fetch 5.6 on mac pro 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon. I am unable to connect to any servers using fetch 5.6

On my macbook pro I have fetch 5.3.1 and I am able to connect to any server. I imported my shortcuts from 5.3.1 to 5.6 to make sure everything (host name, passwords, etc) is the same. I double checked everything comparing one to the other (everything is exactly the same) and still can't seem to connect with 5.6

    Help! Thanks

    Hi Alvaro,

Fetch 5.6 should connect fine to server regardless of the type of Mac you run it on.

We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Try connecting to your server.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into an email to bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .

We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Hi,
Purchased the upgrade and downloaded 5.6.
When dragging the new Fetch icon to the Applications folder icon, the dialog box asks to replace with option of choose or stop. I hit "choose," then the next dialog box says it can't do that because I don't have "sufficient privileges" for some items. In my previous version of Fetch (5.2) I have read/write access.

I've repaired Keychain Access and restarted. Is there something else I should be doing?

I've sent an email to support about this, but I thought I'd post here in case somebody else had the same problem.
    Thanks.

    Hi Kate,

To work around this problem I'd recommend dragging your current copy of Fetch to the Trash, and then dragging the new copy to the Applications folder. Does that fix the problem?

    Hi Jim,
Thanks, yes it worked. I was wary of trashing the previous version, in case it trashed my faves as well. Can I go ahead and empty the trash? (my faves are showing up in 5.6)
BTW, the initial box asking for my serial # said "thanks for choosing 5.5"; however the "about" does say this is 5.6.
