The update broke Fetch for me on OS 10.7 as well.

Can't place a file for upload to ftp server.

Update: I re-downloaded Fetch 5.6 and everything is fine again.

We've had a number of crash reports that turned out to be due to the 3ivx video codec. According to the 3ivx forums, the developers are aware of the issues, and working on an update:

    http://forums.3ivx.com/index.php?showtopic=126440

I would recommend uninstalling 3ivx until the update is released.

no crash log only the one for Apple

    Hi eyew,

The crash log for Apple is the one to send us (you can copy it out of the crash reporter window, and paste it at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback); it should give us a clue as to why the crash is happening.

Hi folks - same problem with Fetch 5.7 crashing in Lion, and am not running the 3ivx encoder. Am sending the crash report via your feedback link... but really - this is causing a major hassle! Thanks.

    Hi,

We're getting some reports from people saying that they don't have 3ivx installed, but the crash log shows a crash in 3ivx. To find the 3ivx software, choose "Go to Folder..." in the Finder and enter:

    /Library/Application Support

The 3ivx software was apparently installed by the software that comes with Flip Video cameras, so if you ever installed that software you're likely to have the broken 3ivx code.

    Thanks,

Just to add to the list. I downloaded and installed 5.7 and it crashes on Lion every time I start it up. I went back to 5.6 until a fix comes out.

    Hi Buddy,

Have you submitted your crash log at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback or checked to see if you have 3ivx installed?

    Thanks,

Jim, I couldn't find 3ivx under /Library/Applications Support but I searched for it using spotlight. I found it and it offered an uninstall option. I uninstalled 3ivx and 5.7 is now working. Thanks.

Had the same problem: 5.7 crashing on Lion. Uninstalled 3ivx and hey presto, works a treat. But question is, what does 3ivx video codec do? Will I miss it?

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

The 3ivx codec is installed by the software that comes with Flip video cameras. So having it uninstalled may affect your ability to play back saved Flip videos. I would recommend contacting Flip about an update. For our part, we are working to see if we can make Fetch immune to this problem.

My Fetch crashes as well but there is not crash report. The icon comes up when clicked but them promptly disappears. Where can I get back the old version. I'm still Lion running 10.4. Where is this 3ivx that can be uninstalled?

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi Lisa,

Fetch 5.7 does not run on Mac OS X 10.4. You should download Fetch 5.6 from http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download .

    Thanks,

I had the same problem with Fetch crashing after installing Lion. But I found the 3ivx folder, deleted it and everything is back in order. Thanks for finding the issue.

    Hi Jim

I had the 3ivx problem with Fetch and deleted that software from my computer. Then I noticed your suggestion to get in touch with Flip. Problem is Flip was purchased by another vendor (I cannot remember the name) and was promptly discontinued. In my case not a problem as I have all the Flip software installed on my iMac, and I don't need Fetch on that.

Perhaps it may be necessary for fetchsoftworks to come up with a solution.

Thanks, Cliff. We are working on finding a workaround to the 3ivx problem.
