Hi,
I'd be happy to help figure this out. Do you know what version of Fetch these users are running? It would be helpful to see the contents of the Fetch Transcript window (choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu) after they get that error.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

To follow up, I did a little research and I think we have a fix for this problem, but it's in an experimental version, and requires OS X 10.9 (or later). For details on that please contact me using the form at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback .
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply.
client is 5.7.5, on OS 10.9.5, fetch transcript log is as follows:
Fetch 5.7.5 (5H1476) Intel (Web Store) running on Mac OS X 10.9.5 (13F1134) Intel English
StuffIt Engine 0x820, StuffIt SDK Version 10.1.1b1
Partial serial FETCHEX001-CXKS-JB5M T
Connecting to (server address) port 21 (Mac OS X firewall is allowing connections) (11/9/15, 10:27 AM)
Connected to (IP address) port 21 (11/9/15, 10:27 AM)
220 Microsoft FTP Service
AUTH TLS
234 AUTH command ok. Expecting TLS Negotiation.
An FTP with TLS/SSL connection to “(server address)” could not be opened because the TLS/SSL connection to the server was closed. (Please try again.)Server is a win 2k8 R2 (IIS7.5) with TLS 1.2 enabled, current InCommon SSL certificate, accepting FTP access. Functions correctly with FileZilla and newer versions of Dreamweaver for both Mac and PC.

Thanks for that information. If you contact me using the form at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback I can give you a link to download an experimental Fetch version that should fix this problem.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Wondering if the experimental version of Fetch resolved this problem or not? I seem to be running into similar problems and am wondering how to resolve this.

Yes, the beta version of the newest Fetch resolved the TLS 1.2 compatibility issue. Speak with Jim et al at the Fetch development team.

We've had to mitigate TLS 1.0 and 1.1 potential vulnerabilities, and a few users working with Fetch are now getting errors stating "An FTP with TLS/SSL connection to "(server)" could not be opened because the TLS/SSL connection to the server was closed. Please try again."
I've verified this behavior from known working client machines, which connect properly with other FTP clients. I'm not sure what to tell my folks, any suggestions? Host operating systems are generally 10.9 and 10.10, a couple of lingering 10.8
