Fetch 5.8.1, a minor update, is now available for download. This release restores two features, the Find command and the ability to change font sizes, that were present in Fetch 5.7.7 but were missing from Fetch 5.8.

In addition, Fetch 5.8.1 fixes a number of crashes and other bugs. See the release notes at https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/help/Contents/WhatsNew/ReleaseNotes.html#Fetch_5_8_1 for details.

Fetch 5.8.1 is a free update if you purchased your Fetch license after January 28, 2009; otherwise an upgrade is $10, and a new license is $29. Fetch 5.8.1 requires macOS 10.15 Catalina, 10.14 Mojave or 10.13 High Sierra.

Please download Fetch 5.8.1 from the Fetch Download page at https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download or by choosing Check for Update… from the Fetch menu. Fetch is no longer available in the Mac App Store; if you purchased a previous version of Fetch from the App Store and wish to upgrade to Fetch 5.8.1, please contact support at https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback . And please let us know if you run into any problems with the new release.

    Thanks,

Amazing!! Thank you for allowing us to change the font size (it works great), and thanks for all your hard work in general!

I just updated to v5.8.1 but the font size menu choices are grey.

    Hi Michael,

The font size commands should be available when the front window is a transfer window. They aren't available for text windows, unfortunately.

    Thanks,

The font size is not adjustable on the Fetch Shortcuts window, is that considered a text window? In earlier versions, the font is larger in that window. That's very disappointing.

    Hi Michael,

The font commands aren't available for shortcut list windows like Fetch Shortcuts either, they are only available for transfer windows. I apologize for this limitation.

    Thanks,

I looked at Cyberduck and like its interface, bold shortcut list, larger font, looks like I'm switching, sorry.

    Hi.
I just installed my new Fetch 5.8.1(FETCH55001-7T2P-RVQE-X9D3-RYXG-92XP) in a MAC OS Big Sur, but not available the option to change fonts and font sizes.
I was reading that FETCH 5.8.1 RESTORES FIND AND FONT SIZE FEATURES, but not possible in BIG SUR?
    Thanks.

    Hi Lalo,

If the front window is a transfer window you should see the "Bigger Font", "Smaller Font" and "Default Font" commands in the View menu. I see them when I run Fetch 5.8.1 on Big Sur.

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

Jim. Now I see that you can. The problem is that I tried it from the option WINDOW- FETCH SHORTCUTS where the list of servers I access is...there you can't.... but you can do it opening each access separately.
    Many thanks.

Pls allow a reminder of the very small requests at
    https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/messageboard/fetch-58-some-requests

    • My tasks are simple: just moving files to my simple website (www.jdawiseman.com, if you care). So I don’t ever need the log window. Please could there be a setting “Show log window at startup”, which I could then uncheck?

    • The text showing how much has been uploaded is messy if it is shorter than previous text. It doesn’t properly clean away the previous text. Small screen grab at http://www.jdawiseman.com/2019/20191210_Fetch_messy_text.png

    • The icon showing how much is done is very small. Please could there be a much stronger visual sense of whether doing or finished? Perhaps, change the whole colour scheme from light grey to dark grey, or even to a pale green. Anything that makes a glimpse enough to know whether done.

    • It used to be that the icon shown by command-tab showed whether doing or done, and if doing, what proportion done. Please could that excellent detail be retained?

And please allow an extra request:
    • Please can there be a ‘Search’ button, with an option that it search recursively.

    Thank you.

    Hi jdaw1,

Are you running macOS 10.13 High Sierra? If so I would recommend running Fetch 5.7.7, which should not have the messy text issue, and which has the progress indicators you are missing. It will also remember that you closed the Fetch Transcript window, and won't open it the next time you open Fetch (I'm working on a fix for this for Fetch 5.8).

Thanks for the Search suggestion. You can use the Find command to filter the file list, but so far I have not found a good way to implement a recursive search.

    Thanks,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

    I could use Fetch 5.7.7.

But, mostly for security reasons, I don’t want to use old versions. My old hardware disallows the latest OS, so for that my choice is limited. But I’ll take the aesthetic imperfections for the security simplicity of what is, at the moment, 5.8.1.

Indeed, I came here today to post a new messy-text image. But you have the bug in mind, so won’t.

Please allow a repeat request for a fix of the messy text. It is difficult for my old-man eyes to find the meaning midst the random detritus of previous messages. Indeed, to determine whether Fetch has finished my new technique is command-Q: if Fetch doesn’t grumble, then it had finished.

Repeat request: old-man eyes not so good with overlapping text.
