Hi! Does Fetch 8.1 is compatible with MacOS Big Sur?

    Thanks for your time.

No, the file list on the server is not shown consistently. Uploading works.

    Hi Ferdi,

I have gotten one report of the file list appearing empty on Big Sur. Is that what you are seeing?

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

    Hello Jim,
Yes, that is what I meant. Thanks for responding.
    Best regards,
    Ferdi.
P.S. I still have a 2013 MacBook Pro with Catalina that works fine.

    Hi,

I am investigating this problem. So far I have not been able to reproduce it on my Mac, but I have received several reports, so I know it is a real issue.

    Thanks,

Big Sur causes the file list to show inconsistently on late 2013 MacBook Pro. When you go back to the Recent file locations, the result is no list at all.

Under the main listing (/) all the files begin with a period and there is no entry into the html files.

    Thank you.

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for looking into this.
The problem occurs on my brand new MaBook Pro, 13 in, 2020. My old MacBook Pro of 2013 in fine as ever, but I have not upgraded to Big Sir. It is still on Catalina. I hope this helps to isolate the problem. Could be an issue
    of Big Sir.
    Best regards
    Ferdi.

    Hello,

Fetch works a little differently on different occasions with Big Sur. Sometimes you see all the files on the server, sometimes not. Often the same number of files is displayed even though I download new ones. The same number of input values each time no matter how many files are downloaded.

By and large, Fetch works, but you get a little unsure where the files end up when the folder is sometimes empty…

    Hi Ejrob,

Thanks for that feedback. If you choose View Verbose File List from the Remote menu do you see all the files listed?

    Thanks,

    Hi Ferdi, dad and Ejrob,

Could you contact me at https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback ? I have created a test version of Fetch to gather more information about this problem, and I would like to give you the download link.

    Thank you,

On a whim I installed Little Snitch 5.0.2 on my Big Sur machine, and immediately started seeing empty file lists as reported here. After dragging Little Snitch to the Trash, file lists returned.

Are any of you running Little Snitch? If so, could you try uninstalling it to see if that makes a difference?

    Thanks,

I'm having the same missing file list issue. When I log into the top level with the saved shortcut, it shows the directory contents. But when I click a subdirectory it comes up totally blank. Hitting the reload button doesn't help, hitting Command-R multiple times doesn't help, moving up and down one level doesn't help. Clicking Web View shows the index page correctly in the browser (Chrome).
I'm running Fetch 5.8.1 in Big Sur v11.1 on a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015.
    And I'm not running Snitch.

Same, ever since upgrading to big sur. Updated to 11.1 yesterday, no help. There was no prob on Catalina on the same machine a few weeks ago (9 month old Mini, intel).

I tried all the suggested fixes: the "LIST -al" thing, toggling PASV mode, checking to make sure fetch got the nod from the Mac's firewall (and tried turning it off for a while, too), etc. Nothing helped. Refreshing 30 or 40 times sometimes produces a partial list of files on the server. Don't think I ever get the whole list, though. No Little Snitch, no other firewall or virus stuff that would mess with anything. The only thing that changed was installing big sur.

Lappy is still running Cat. Same version of Fetch (5.8.1), and there is no problem whatsoever.

    Hi,

These are the first reports I've gotten that haven't involved Little Snitch or other network security software. Could you contact me at https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/feedback ? I'd like to gather more information.

    Thanks,

First attempts to use 5.8.1 with Big Sur have ben unsuccessful. Uploaded files do not show up under Index. "Web View" in Fetch takes me to iCloud.com instead of Safari. Suggestions, please. Thanks.

Fetch under Big Sur was giving me the same problems - wonky file list, but could upload, and some other odd behavior connecting to certain addresses. Removing LIttleSnitch completely fixed Fetch (and several other apps) under Big Sur. The LittleSnitch people are aware of the problems and are working on it, they say. Special thanks to Jim Matthews here for his help.

I have a Mac Pro late 2013 with Big Sur and no Little Snitch and Fetch is now unusable. Folders and files disappear or never show up to begin with. Is there a fix coming or do I have to buy a different program to upload my files?

    Hi Mike,

You can try Fetch 5.8.2b1, which is available for download from

    https://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/Fetch_5.8.2b1.zip

Please let me know if you still see problems.

    Thanks,

Jim- I just tried the beta. No difference. First window was fine. Opened a directory - blank. Went backwards - blank. Up and down - blank. Sorry... MacBook Pro Mid 2015. Big Sur 11.1. Only firewall is Norton 8.6.1, Build 39. No snitch. No system changes since before Fetch 5.8.1.

Jim, works so far but I have only used it for a couple of minutes. I will keep you updated.

    Hi Steve Hill,

Thanks for trying the beta. Have you tried uninstalling Norton? I'm afraid that any sort of firewall software on Big Sur will have this problem, because they all have to use the new Big Sur Network Extension Framework, and so are vulnerable to bugs in that framework.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,
I tried Fetch 5.8.2b1. No difference. I still think it is a Mac OS problem. Lots of (small??) problems with Big Sur.
    Thank you so much.
    Ferdi.

Just for fun, tried the beta with Little Snitch. Still a no-go there, same problem. Uninstalled LS and the beta worked. Then rolled back to pre-beta/last stable release and of course all is fine.

I ran both versions of Fetch with and without Norton and got the same results. Initial directory worked on the current Fetch version one time, then nothing on the beta. That was all that worked during several app open and close cycles and up and down navigation levels. Nothing different.

    Hi Steve,

Did you uninstall Norton completely, i.e. drag it to the trash, and agree to the confirmation alert that asks if you want the network extension to be removed?

    Thanks,

No, I turned off all the Norton services, rebooted then tested. With all due respect, I'm not going to put my machine at risk, even for a few minutes, to test an issue with someone else's software... I need an FTP app about every 6 months these days... I have a couple others but like Fetch the best...
I was a network administrator over a 50-Mac network for twenty years, using mainly Norton AV products, had to deal with several major Mac vulnerabilities, etc., (staff mistakes mainly) and I don't want to have to come out of retirement to troubleshoot an intrusion again unless I absolutely have to!

    (Sorry. (I feel your frustration...)

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for that additional information. It is a frustrating situation, for software developers and for our customers. Please do consider reporting this problem to Apple; the more reports they receive the more likely they are to put resources towards fixing this problem in a future release.

    Thanks,

For what it's worth, I plan to stay with Fetch, because it's been by far the most elegant FTP client by a mile. I know you'll figure it out.
    Good luck...
