Fetch and using a hotspot (6 posts)

    I am considering switching from broadband to using my Mifi Hotspot full time.

    However, I am having trouble connecting to work server through Fetch when using the Hotspot (won't connect).

    Is it possible to connect using Fetch or is there another solution out there OR do I need to keep my broadband?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    It could be that the Mifi requires FTP passive mode, and that your work server does not support FTP passive mode. If that was the case you would not be able to use Fetch or any other FTP client to access that server from the Mifi.

    Can you connect to any other servers, such as ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (you can leave the username and password blank) when you are using the Mifi?

    Thanks,

    Can we force fetch to be active? When we use active on other servers on the same connection it works perfectly.

    We are unable to use passv on the Titan FTP server we are trying to connect to.

    thanks

    Hi,

    You can tell Fetch to use active mode by unchecking "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the General section of Fetch Preferences. The question is whether that will work from behind the Mifi. Fetch automatically tries active mode if passive mode fails, so my guess is that Fetch has already tried both. But it's worth changing that setting and trying again.

    If that still does not work, could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents? That information will help us troubleshoot the problem.

    Thanks,

    200 PORT command successful.
    LIST -al
    150 File status okay; about to open data connection.
    ABOR
    501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments.
    425 Unable to open data connection.
    PASV
    get_reply():con_conn->Getline() returns 1,54
    ftp_list: 2,-30028 (state == GETTING_LIST)
    Fetch could not get the file list because there was a timeout waiting for the server to establish an active data connection. (A local firewall might be blocking active mode (PORT) transfers. Try checking the “Use passive mode transfers (PASV)” box in the General pane of the Preferences, or turn off firewall port blocking.)

    I would have to see more of the transcript to be sure, but it looks as if the Mifi will not support active mode FTP, and you already know that the server will not support passive mode FTP. If you'd like to send the complete transcript, you can send it to mailto:bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .

    You might also ask whether the server supports connecting with SFTP; that would be another way around the problem.

    Thanks,
