Recently a commercial server where I have several web sites updated cpanel. Something in the update has made it impossible for ANY MacOSx client (including terminal) to get a directory listing. Fetch and every other FTP client I can install on my Mac, hangs after logging into the site and requesting the directory list.

I have been told by the web server support people that turning off passive mode should fix the issue. It doesn't.

I am a paid, registered user of Fetch. Before the cpanel upgrade on the server, Fetch had no trouble accessing files.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

If so, is there an solution.

I have web sites on a server that uses Plesk and I have no trouble getting to the files from the Mac using Fetch.

The problem, as mentioned in another thread here, is with the MacOSx sharing setting. In order to get Fetch to work without PASSIVE you must allow FTP in the sharing setting.

Once that was changed, Fetch no longer had trouble accessing directory info.

Another option is to turn off the OS X firewall (in the Sharing panel of System Preferences). One could argue that running without a firewall might be safer than turning on the FTP server.

Either way, it would be a good idea to tell the service provider that they should support passive mode, since that lets clients leave their firewalls on.

I have just experienced this and none of the mentioned solutions work. I almost left my webhost on account of this--and may yet since I have to ftp using my mac. If you hear of any solutions, please post again.

    clori:

Have you tried unchecking "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences, and turning off the OS X firewall in the Sharing panel of System Preferences? If that does not work could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents?

    Thanks,

Had same problem with dropped connection to ipower.com host. Downloaded firefox fireFTP just to try a different ftp app. I was still getting disconnect until I selected ipV6 option in settings. Then was able to remain connected OK. I haven't found an equivalent setting for Fetch. Is there one?
