I wonder if an incorrect password is saved in the Keychain. You could run Keychain Access (an application included with Mac OS) and look for the password in question, so that you could correct it. Please let me know if that doesn't resolve the problem.
Thanks,

It might help me to have a step-by-step description of what you see. For instance, when you run Fetch, does the New Connection dialog appear? Is it filled in at all? You say that the bullet characters (or only the last one?) disappear before your eyes -- is that in response to your typing something, or does it happen spontaneously?
Thanks,

hi jim: here's a step-by-step (btw, i am using OS 10.3.7 on a powerbook)
(1) launch fetch
(2) New Connection window appears (blank)
(3) pull-down Shortcuts menu and select server
(4) all info appears in proper place - but then the last bullet in the password mysteriously disappears before my eyes - as if someone hit delete. at this point, i have typed nothing.hope you can help me...

I would try adding the ! back to the password (after it mysteriously disappears), and then checking the "Add to Keychain" box before clicking OK. Does this fix the problem the next time you run Fetch?
Thanks,

hi jim - dude that totally fixed it!!! awesome! so what do you think was the problem? i have been using fetch for years and not run into that problem with a password... thanks so much!

I think the incorrect password (missing the last character) was saved in the Keychain, while the correct password was saved in the shortcut. So choosing the shortcut would temporarily show the right password, only to have it replaced with the incorrect password from the Keychain. Saving the correct password to the Keychain fixed the problem.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

this is strange... maybe someone can help...
i have a password that ends in "!" (exclaimation point) but fetch doesn't seem to remember it. i have to type it in manually each time.
and when i first go to log on, it looks like the character is there in "•" format but then it disappears before my eyes... once i type the "!" it's all good... any thoughts??? much appreciated... and happy holidays...
