  When I start up fetch it immediatley shuts down. It has worked fine in the past. I have tried restarting and reinstalling but these do not make any difference.

  If this is Fetch 4.0.3 I'd recommend moving the Fetch Prefs file out of the Preferences folder. On Mac OS X that's inside the Preferences folder, which is inside the Library folder in your Home folder. On Mac OS 9 it's inside the Preferences folder inside the System Folder.

  moved prefs doc to desktop & restarted but no joy. Should i delete doc completely?

  Deleting the files should not be necessary. I'd also move these files:

  Fetch Cache
  Fetch Shortcuts
  com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist
  com.apple.internetconfig.plist
