Fetch from the Mac App Store (2 posts)

I've been a long time Fetch user and just noticed that it is now in the Mac App Store. I know that previously installed programs may or may not be recognized by the MAS as already installed. It so happens that Fetch does not. But whether or not it does, the program will also not get the update process from the MAS. So is there no way to remove and re-install Fetch through the MAS without having to re-purchase it?

    Hi,

    Thanks for writing.

The reason Mac App Store doesn't recognize that you already have Fetch 5.6 installed is because the version in the Mac App Store is slightly different from the one you already own.

However, there are no new features or bugfixes in the Mac App Store version of Fetch. We had to make some internal changes to meet the App Store requirements, so the version in the Mac App Store is called Fetch 5.6.3 instead of Fetch 5.6, and that's why the Mac App Store doesn't recognize them as "the same." But the only functional difference between the two is that the Mac App Store version does not include the Fetch Dashboard widget (because the Mac App Store rules don't allow applications to install widgets).

Unfortunately, other than re-purchasing, there is currently no way to turn an existing Fetch license into an App Store purchase, so that you could get future updates through the App Store. Apple has not provided a way for that to happen.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Thanks,
