Fetch odd that after macOS 10.13 can not save edits (31 posts)

macOS High Sierra public release (17A365)

Never had a problem with Fetch /BBedit before—however after upgrading to High Sierra, I can edit a file, save a file but for some reason Fetch does not make the change on the server

If I Get the file on my desktop, edit with BBedit and upload from Desktop—the edit seems to stick.

    Very odd behavior.

    Please advise

    Jim Matthews,

Same problem as others: can't save edits online with High Sierra. Would appreciate receiving the link to the fix you've offered others. Looking forward to the upgrade.

I've been a good and faithful user and advocate of Fetch practically from its beginning. I admire and appreciate the work you do.

I'm having a different version of this problem, still unresolved. I'm on Mac OS X Sierra 10.12.6. Fetch 5.7.6 worked properly for me, such that when I "Edit" a remote document in BBEdit, on hitting "save" Fetch would upload the changed version to the server. But with Fetch 5.7.7 this functionality broke, and hitting "save" no longer results in Fetch uploading the changed file to the server. I will also contact you for your test version, assuming that is newer than 5.7.7, unless that "fix" is what actually broke it for me.

    Hi,

Fetch 5.7.7 incorporates the test version fix for macOS 10.13 High Sierra. If 5.7.6 worked for you you might want to revert to that version; you can download it from

    http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/Fetch_5.7.6.dmg

    Thanks,

Hello Jim, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I will continue using 5.7.6 for now.

However, I assume you will be producing a new version 5.7.8 of Fetch soon, that is compatible with both High Sierra plus older versions, so all users will have your latest improvements regardless of which of the 5.7-supported Mac OS versions they are running.

I am interested to be a test user once that happens. I expect to be remaining on Sierra at least for the next few months.

    Thank you.

I recently updated to 5.7.7. This morning I edited (in BBEdit - from Fetch) a file and saved it back to the remote server. Also uploaded the file using Fetch from the Finder. After the refresh the file is missing. Safari couldn't find it. Downgraded to Fetch 5.7.6 using the link above and still have the same problem. I'm on the latest macOS (10.13.2).

    --
Update. Stopping and restarting my computer didn't help. Downloading via Get or Drag and Drop work OK. Hosted with GoDaddy. GoDaddy file upload function works OK but not as convenient as BBEdit/Fetch combination.

    --
Another update. Connecting directly with BBEdit > Open from FTP server deletes files on save too. Looks like I need to contact GoDaddy help.

    --
Looks like they are applying a fix but will take 1-2 hours to resolve. I'll re-test old and new versions of Fetch then.

I'm unable to save edited files on El Capitan. Installed the latest version and it still doesn't work.

    Hi Christy,

What editor are you using? Do you get any error message when you save a file?

    Thanks,

TextMate - no error, it fails pretty quietly. I keep trying to figure out what's wrong with my code before realizing my file didn't save.

Has this worked for you before, or is this the first time you've tried editing remote files with TextMate and Fetch?

    Thanks,

It's worked for years. It broke on a recent update, I think in the past few months. I updated to the latest before posting to see if it fixed, but it didn't.

    Hi,

You can try previous Fetch releases to see if that makes a difference. You can download them with URLs of the form

    http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/Fetch_5.7.7.dmg

(i.e. change the version number to 5.7.6 for Fetch 5.7.6).

I'd also check to see if there's an El Capitan or TextMate update.

    Thanks,

Christy, I suspect your problem is like mine: Using Apple-supported Mac OS version prior to High Sierra, the Fetch 5.7.6 from a year ago works but 5.7.7 doesn't. I would be very interested to know if simply going to Fetch 5.7.6 and changing nothing else fixes the problem for you.

    Posted 6 years ago #

Yes, 5.7.6 fixed it. Thank you!

    Hi Jim

    Thanks for the response.

    I'm using...

    Fetch 5.7.3.
    BBedit 9.6.3
    MacOS Mojave

Hope that helps. and just to add something to this, I can't even drag and drop files into Fetch. For instance, I'm attempting to drag and drop a folder of files into the site I'm working on, and each time I try I get an error message that reads "Fetch could not put "[name of file or folder]" because a file was not found". These are files that definitely exist. Sort of a major issue if I can't save file directly to my server and if I can't even drag and drop files.

I too find myself unable to save my edited files to the server.

I've recently migrated my Fetch bookmarks over to a new computer running Mac OS Mojave (from another device; a Macbook running Sierra) and installed 5.77; I tried to mirror my Fetch preferences between devices first, but when I hit "Save", nothing gets pushed back to the server; the timestamp doesn't change, the file is clearly unaffected.

I tried downgrading backwards one version, to 5.7.6, but that didn't seem to make a difference. I'm not sure I understand what's different here between how similar versions are connecting?
