Hi,
When exactly do you get this error message? After you click the "Try" button? When you try to connect to your server? When you try to download a file?
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

Sorry. It's after I hit 'Try'.

Hi,
This error may indicate a problem with the Mac OS X keychain, which Fetch uses to securely store the passwords for your shortcuts and recent connections.
Please do the following to check for and repair problems with the keychain:
* Quit Fetch, if it's running.
* Open the Keychain Access application, which is in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder.
* Go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Preferences.
* Click on the "First Aid" tab.
* Make sure both "Synchronize login keychain password" and "Set login keychain as default" are checked.
* Then go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Keychain First Aid.
* In the password field of the Keychain First Aid window, enter your Mac OS X admin password (this should be the same as your Mac OS X login password).
* Click the Repair radio button.
* Click the Start button.
* Once it's done, close the Keychain First Aid window.
* Restart your Macintosh. Then try Fetch again.
Let us know if you're still having problems after doing this.
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

Sorry, this failed. Followed the instructions but to no avail. Same error as before. Any other ideas?

Hi,
If you could send us your Fetch log, that may provide us with more information what's going on.
To find the Fetch.log file:
* Click the desktop background to select the Finder.
* In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu and choose "Home"
* Open the Library folder
* Open the Logs folder
* Find the file named "Fetch.log"Attach it to an email to bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .
The file may be somewhat large, so you may want to compress it before sending it to us. (Select the Fetch.log file, go to the File menu, choose Compress, and send the resulting zip file instead.)
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

Hi,
We have not received your email with the Fetch log yet; if you sent it once, could you please try sending it again?
Thanks,

Could you share the solution with the rest of us? I have the same problem, and I've tried about 5 different solutions to no avail.

I should also point out that when a person is in this error mode, there is no way to quit the program normally. The "quit" menu item is disabled, so users must force quit the application because the license window reappears.

Just need to point out that the solution above & the one that was mailed didn't work for me. I have had alot on since the post & not got around to trying to fix the problem for good. Other things have been more prressing & we could use other users machine to do our FTP-ing.
The email was as follows:
[email removed by Fetch staff because it is not a general purpose solution for all users]

The above link code may have been user-specific relating to my error log which I provided sometime ago.

Yes, that fixed the problem, thank you!
Admins can ignore that email I sent you with the log file.
Much appreciated!

Ron:
The reason we had not posted a solution was twofold: we had not heard back from Greg (until today) about whether the solution we sent him worked, and also, the fix we suggested to him may not apply to all users in this situation.
But I'm glad to hear it worked for you. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Greg:
I'm sorry to hear the solution we sent you didn't work. Unfortunately the email you posted may not apply to everyone's situation, so I have removed it. If you would like us to continue to look into this problem with you, please let us know.
To anyone else experiencing this problem: please contact us at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com and we'll try to help out.
Thanks,

Thanks for the info - I realise it has been quite sometime since getting back to you, but workload & other IT issues pushed this to the bottom of the pile.
I'll have another look at this particular users machine & get back to you. It does seem as though this user is also having permissions issues with their files, particularly when copying to other users dropboxes. I have a feeling the problems are linked.
More soon... (I hope).

Thanks for the help in such a timely matter.
I'm having other permissions problems since I migrated to a larger harddrive, so I don't think it is a Fetch-only issue (although other apps aren't giving me these types of errors).
If anyone can enlighten us to the underlying permissions issue causing the problem, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Ron,
You're welcome. Unfortunately, we're not sure what causes the permissions problem; we haven't seen this happen on any of our machines during testing (or normal use), and has only been reported by a couple of users. We don't believe this is a Fetch issue; something has happened on the drive to change permissions, and Fetch doesn't have the power to make changes to the permissions of files on your Mac's hard drive. (It can change permissions of files on FTP servers, of course, but that's completely different.)
It could be that Mac OS X has just gotten confused about permissions in general on the drive, so using Disk Utility to run Disk First Aid and both repairing the disk and repairing permissions probably would be a good idea (I can't guarantee that will fix the overall problem, but it can't hurt to do it).
Best,
Scott McGuire

Believe me, I've tried a lot of stuff including all of the repair techniques and something's still not right.
I think Fetch was the last issue...I hope...

Hi All
Can't use Fetch at all (will not let me 'Try' the product after counter) & delivers this error message:
"The action could not be completed because you do not have the required permissions for the local file or folder. Use the Get Info command in the Finder to check the permissions"
Permissions on what?... Fetch? Done that & looks ok. Real weird this one, cause it was working fine up to that point a few days ago.
Quad Intel Mac OSX 10.6.4 using Fetch 5.6
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
