File is busy, but not (6 posts)

Trying to download folders with 90 files (all html) and when I drag them to overwrite existing folder/files I get "Fetch could not get X, File is busy can't be deleted or overwritten." If I open the folder and grab the files they will download and overwrite but not the folder their in.

I can download the same without a problem with Transmit (although it's flakey for large amounts of files or very large individual files).

I deleted the fetch cache and preferences multiple times to no avail.

I don't have time to drag the files.

    What's up with this?

If you move the folder on your Mac to the trash before dragging the folder from Fetch, does the transfer work then?

Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents after you see this problem?

    Thanks,

I am having the same problem as Kenny: When I try to download folder X, I get "Fetch could not get X, File is busy can't be deleted or overwritten." The Fetch transcript is (sorry of this looks ugly):

    SSH2_FXP_OPENDIR 6739, /export/samfs-bcf/rcf-78/my_username/X
    SSH2_FXP_READDIR 6740
    drwxr-xr-x 2 my_username vis-coll 4096 Aug 31 2007 .
    drwxr--r-x 13 my_username vis-coll 4096 Jun 5 23:18 ..
    -rw-r--r-- 1 my_username vis-coll 337 Aug 31 2007 file1.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 my_username vis-coll 4856 Aug 31 2007 file2.txt
    SSH2_FXP_READDIR 6741
    SSH2_FXP_CLOSE 6742
    SSH2_FX_OK 6742

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Dr. Jay,

In order to provide the best advice, we'd like some more informatoin.

Does a folder of the same name already exist in the place you're trying to download the server folder to?

What happens if you try to download the folder to a different folder on your Mac - do you get the same error?

(If you're using Fetch 5.2 or later, you can temporarily choose a different folder to download to by holding down the Option key while clicking the Get button; otherwise you can change the download folder in the Download pane of the Preferences.)

    Thanks,

This seems to happen only when a folder of the same name exists locally (but that is exactly when I want to do this, when backing things up). Trying top download to any other place without a folder of the same name works fine.

    Hi,

It sounds like Fetch is trying to overwrite a file on the Mac side, but that file is busy (e.g. open in an application) so the system won't let us do that. What happens if you download to a different folder, and then drag all the files to the folder where you wanted to download them -- do you get an error from the Finder?

    Thanks,
