Folder Opens in New Window (13 posts)

    Hello,

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.5) and Fetch (5.6) about two weeks ago, I've discovered that every now and then Fetch prefers to open a new window every time I try to open a folder, leaving me with a trail of windows to close afterwards. The only solution to this problem is restarting the machine. Any ideas as to why Fetch suddenly wants to behave this way?

    Thanks in advance,
    Travis.

    Hi,

We have had a couple of reports of this, but have not yet been able to reproduce it ourselves; it seems to only affect a very few users. So we are gathering information to try to determine what might be causing it.

The first thing we'd like is to see a System Profile report from your Mac. To do this:

    * Go to the Apple menu, and choose About this Mac.
    * Click the "More Info" button. This will open Apple System Profiler.
    * Go the File menu, and choose Save.
    * Give the file a name such as "SIVART System Profile."
    * Save it.
    * Compress the resulting file as a zip file. (Select the system profile file, go to the File menu, and choose Compress.)
    * Send it via email to us at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .

We'll look it over and will follow up with additional questions or suggestions.

    Thanks for your help,

I'm also seeing the same problem and have found the only fix is to restart the computer; restarting Fetch made no difference. Have you been able to track down the problem?

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the report. We're still looking into it. Unfortunately we haven't been able to duplicate the problem ourselves, so we would very much appreciate your help in gathering data about the problem so that we can come up with a solution.

To begin with, could you please send us a system profile, as described in the second post of this thread? And then we'll probably ask some more followup questions.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

I had the same issue where Fetch was opening up a new window everytime I clicked on a folder.

My operating system is 10.6.6 Snow Leopard and I am using CS5. Fetch began to open up new windows after I had created a keyboard quick key in InDesign. While creating the keyboard shortcut I pressed the keys Ctr+Alt+Space which apprently can bugger things up in regards to CS5.

My Dreamweaver application also started to play up as well. See this article:
    http://howtogetitworking.com/2010/12/16/cs5-destinations-code-navigator-show-selection/

I have removed my keyboard short cut and restarted the Mac. I will also refrain from pressing Ctr+Alt+Space which seemed to trigger the whole thing off.

I hope that might help shed some light on it. I may be completely wrong.

    Kind regards,
    Neil Forrester

    Hi Neil,

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if a keyboard shortcut in InDesign could be causing this problem in Fetch, but it's something we'll look into.

I see that you have also emailed us a System Profile, thanks - we'll follow up with you via email.

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Unfortunately, our current research indicates that this problem is likely to be the result of a Mac OS X 10.6 bug (which can also affect CS5 applications, as Neil mentioned above). However, we continue to look into it to see if there is anything we can do to work around it.

It would be very helpful to us if you could send us a system profile - see the instructions in the second post of this topic. We may also have some followup questions for you after we receive the system profile.

In the meantime, the problem can usually be fixed either by typing a keyboard shortcut in Fetch (such as selecting a file and choosing Command-I), or by restarting your Mac.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

An update: we believe this problem is fixed in Mac OS X 10.6.7. If you are experiencing this problem and have not updated to Mac OS X 10.6.7, please update to Mac OS X 10.6.7 and see if that fixes the problem.

If you have updated to Mac OS X 10.6.7 and are still having this problem, please let us know.

    Thanks,

I am running 10.6.7, but i just started having this problem last night. I'm not doing anything differently within Fetch or other programs that I'm aware of. I will try restarting and see if that fixes it, as mentioned above.

Started happening to me yesterday. new window for every double-click on a folder...

10.7.5 . Software update is all current. No OS or Java updates pending.

In working on testing a PHP script Saturday, I recall using the cmd-R (refresh) keyboard shortcut a lot to View As Text a file the script creates, and perhaps I missed the "R" and maybe did a cmd-E or similar.

I just rebooted my machine. First time in maybe a month. From shutdown. Had to Force Quit > Finder to get it to shutdown.

All booted up, and now Fetch is back to its old self. No new window on every double-click.

(And, please stop using the word "Unfortunately". It's sickening. It's too MBA. Third-world country tech Support. I could go on, but its not worth it.)
