font files don,t download (4 posts)

    Hi I have Fetch 5.6 on a Mac G5 dual processer running Os X.4.111, when I download files sent to my ftp site the font
    files show up but they are all zero K? what could cause this

    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help figure out what's going on.

    Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Go to the View menu, and choose Refresh.
    * Download one of the problem font files.
    * After the download is complete, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and try to advise.

    Hi,

    The problem is that the font files on the server contain no data (0 bytes) - so the problem isn't with the download, the problem happened with the upload.

    Some Mac font files contain special information that cannot be stored on an FTP server unless the font file is first encoded or compressed; I suspect that's what is happening here.

    You should ask the person who uploaded the font files to compress them before uploading the files - either as zip files, using the Compress command built into Mac OS X (select a file, go to the File menu, choose Compress) or with StuffIt if they have StuffIt - and then upload the font files again.

    Then you can decompress the files after you download them, and all should be well.
