ftp server drops connection for large files (5 posts)

I have been using fetch 4.0 since 2001, and recently upgraded to 5. Now I'm having a problem where large image file transfers keep dropping, sometimes after an hour or more. Very frustrating... just spent $60 on FedEx because dropped connections kept happening. Smaller 60mb files have worked fine. 300mb to 800mb keep failing....zip or native .psd. I did once get a stall. Here's the typical message. "Fetch Could not put "" because the FTP server dropped the connection. Server responsponded:" Opening BINARY mode data connection for filename" Turning off sleep and screen savers didn't stop the problem.

I'm on a powermac G5 dual 2.5 with a ton of memory running latest Tiger.

    Hi,

We have a new beta version that may fix this problem for you. If you would like to give it a try please send an email to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com.

The Beta seems to have solved my issues. I was able to upload both the 300mb and 800mb files to the two different servers without a hitch.... Only wish I'd had the beta a few days earlier... I'd rather give me dollars to Fetch than to FedEx.

    Thanks!

Just a follow-up note for this topic:

The improvements in the beta version mentioned above have now been released as part of Fetch 5.5, which has the ability to detect failed or stalled uploads and resume them automatically - so even if your upload is interrupted unexpectedly, Fetch 5.5 should continue it to completion.

So if you are experiencing problems similar to those mentioned in this thread, please give Fetch 5.5 a try. The beta version is no longer available, as it has been superseded by the final release version.

You can download Fetch 5.5 from our homepage at http://fetchsoftworks.com . You can try Fetch 5.5 free for 15 days.

Please note that Fetch 5.5 may not be a free upgrade for you. It is free to users who purchased Fetch on or after January 29, 2009; otherwise, it costs $10. For more details, see http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/upgrade .

    Thanks,
