It sounds like you need information about configuring and managing the OS X FTP server. It's based on WU-FTPD, a popular UNIX FTP server. I would recommend looking for books or web tutorials on administering UNIX FTP servers. It isn't a trivial topic.

Thanks man, any idea where to find a tutorial about it though? I tried looking in the help program built into the computor but it was of no help...

I looked and didn't find any web tutorials either. You can run the Terminal program (it's in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder) and type "man ftpd" or "man ftpd.conf" for some information. But I think that to properly manage it you'll have to read a book on UNIX server administration.
Another option is purchasing a commercial FTP server like Rumpus, which comes with a manual.
Thanks,

I'm new to ftp's and I'm on OSX.
My problems so far are:
Everything on my computer is shared when I go to system prefrences, sharing, and click ftp; anyway I can controle what is shared?
Anyway to make it so people don't have to put in my login name and password for the computer?
when someone puts in http:// then my ip number it doesn't work but it does for another Mac OSX user who's been helping me.
Anyone able to help? Thanks
