Pardon the redundancy if this has been asked and answered before.

When running Fetch 5.3 under Leopard 10.5.2 and attempting to upload files to our Web host, the Fetch screen goes gray, or a shade of gray, (along with the background desktop environment). A click on any interface element in the selection window takes Fetch to the desktop and nothing further is selectable at that point.

I'm a Default Folder user (running the current DF version) and uploading via Fetch has always been a one-click wonder. However, Default Folder fails to load in this version (a conflict?). What is the obvious setting, solution or misconfiguration I am overlooking?

I'm having similar difficulties. I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2 yesterday, and now I can't upload files to my server. The screen on my MacBook Pro goes into battery save mode, clicking on the screen anywhere has no effect, and Fetch fails to respond. I can't even Force Quit it.

FWIW, YummyFTP also behaves strangely, so it seems to be an OS X problem.

Thanks for reporting this problem. We have 3 other reports of this problem, and at least one of them is from a Default Folder X user, so that is one factor I'd like to investigate. Could you try temporarily uninstalling Default Folder X, restarting, and then seeing if the Fetch problem is still there? There are instructions on uninstalling Default Folder X here:

    http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/manual/pages/install.html

By the way, one of the other users reported that hitting the Escape (esc) key dismisses the grey screen -- does that work for either/both of you?

    Thanks,

Yes, ESC key is the only option. It sounds as if Default Folder is the offender. I hesitate to uninstall it as I use it with every single folder and application on my computer (and it stores prefs and locations in the process). What is the difference between Fetch 5 and the rest of the Mac catalogue (including Fetch 3.x/4.x) which we seem to be able to run with DF and without incident? Thanks for your help!

    Seattle:

I'm not sure why this particular problem is affecting Fetch and not other applications. But I have heard from St. Clair Software (the makers of Default Folder X) that they have figured out this problem, and will shortly release a version 4.0.2 to fix it. If you need a fix right away, I would recommend contacting support at stclairsoft dot com.

    Thanks,
