  I feel a little foolish. I have agreed to help a friend set up a web site - I started my husband's web site over 4 years ago and have kept it up all using FETCH so I thought, easy. But when I saw the window for my "new connection" it was unfamiliar. It was called "webdocs and had a list of folders (., .., cgi, index.htm, logs) I tried using most of them with no luck at uploading my own "index.htm" so tried creating a new directory with the .com name - still no success. It must be simple, but I'm missing it! CAN ANYONE HELP?

  It sounds like you were in the right place when you saw index.htm -- that should be the directory where you want to upload your friend's index.htm file. If that doesn't work, could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you upload the file? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu. Also, it would be helpful to know the URL of the friend's site.

  Thanks for your help, JimMatthews. "Index.htm" didn't work. It was listed when I first opened Fetch, which was confusing because the "home page" must have that title (Right?).
  The transcript follows:

  Hello, again. I saw that didn't work so I copied it to my word processor and copied that and pasted it here- worked!

  Hopefully you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. (The Directory on Fetch for our web-site, which I started as part of a college course, is "pub_html")

  Different web service providers set things up differently, so some have customers put their website files in public_html, some in webdocs, and so forth.

  I would contact Earthlink (the provider in this case) to find out where your files should go. The transcript looks correct, if the files are supposed to go in webdocs.
