when i try to connect for fetch a message comes up which says "error on password:loggin incorrect" I know it may seem obvious what the problem is, but my host assures me that the user name and password is correct. May it be the fact that she is using a pc and i am using a mac?

That error almost always means that one of the three things entered in the New Connection window -- Host, User ID, and Password -- is incorrect. You'd get the same message entering the same information in a Windows FTP program.

So I'd recommend double-checking the information. If that does not work please post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window (it's listed in the Window menu) after you get the error message.

    Thanks,

Hmmm... I'm having the exact same problem. Regardless of what you say, I've inputed the EXACT same Host, User ID and Password in as I have on my Windows machine (I'm trying hard to migrate back to a Mac and off of Windoze, but this is killing me!).

Could there be some other setting(s), either in Fetch or MacOSX that we are forgetting to set? The only account I can get to work is the Administrator (I own the server). Connecting to a RedHat 6.2 Server. Any help would be appreciated!

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you try to connect? It would also be useful to see a transcript of a successful connection from a Windows computer, if your Windows FTP client supports that.

    Thanks,

In Fetch, when you get the error message about the login being incorrect, press the OK button in the error message window and then Cancel in the New Connection window. Then choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu, "Select All" from the Edit menu and "Copy" from the Edit menu. Then paste the transcript into your reply.

    Thanks,

Either "fidelmusic.com" is not the right hostname, "a0010186." is not the right user id, or the password you are entering is not correct. You should contact the server administrator for the site to find out which.

i have checked and double checked... i've been assured that they are correct. like i said, i can sign in to netadmin using internet explorer and these passwords. looks like we're at an impasse, so i'm gonna have to try another ftp program---if you would be so kind, would you please take the transcript of the last reply off the msg board so that everyone can't see my user name and site? thanks.

Logging into netadmin with IE may use a different userid and password than the ones expected by the FTP server (which is telling Fetch that the ones you are using are invalid). So my guess is that another FTP program will give you the same results, but it's a good thing to try.
