iWeb Folder Won't Delete (4 posts)

I created an iWeb website and uploaded it to a test page on a working website (I'm just testing it). I now want to delete the folder and get the following message:

"Fetch could not delete 'UK2007" becase the FTP server says that the requested item was not a folder or could not be accessed. If you enter a folder name or URL, check that it is correct. Server responded: "UK2007:Directory not empty'."

I don't think this is a Fetch problem but I thought someone might know what's going on.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

    Hi,

This is probably a server problem - some servers have problems deleting files with spaces in their name, and I'd guess that iWeb created a file with a space in its name, and so now when you try to delete the folder, the server tries to delete the files inside it, and when it encounters that file, the server gives you an error.

I'd try connecting to your website in Fetch, opening up the folder, and seeing if you can delete single files inside it. If you can delete some files and not others (such as ones with spaces in the name), then you need to avoid creating filenames with spaces - although I'm not sure how you'd stop iWeb from doing that.

If you cannot delete any files, then the server is probably setting the permissions in your account incorrectly.

In either case, you'll have to contact your hosting provider to delete the files and fix the problem.

Please let us know if you have more questions. Thanks,

All the files in the folder would delete, just not the folder itself. I actually stumbled on a fix ... I went to 2nd Mac (MacBook Pro, which may or may not be significant), signed into the account with Fetch and immediately I was able to delete them from the 2nd computer. FWIW, I tried setting up iWeb folders with & without spaces and either way, I had the same problem and solution. Go figure. Thanks very much for your help ... I'll keep the call ISP suggestion as a backup in case other funny things start happening.

    Hi,

Thanks for the followup. I can't say why you could delete it on one Mac but not another, but it's good that it's fixed.

If you run into the problem again, we'd like to see a transcript from Fetch so we can try to figure out what's going on - but don't worry about that for this time.

    Thanks,
