line breaks not getting translated via SFTP (2 posts)

When using Fetch to connect via SFTP I'm not able to get it to translate the line breaks when it uploads files--I look at the file after it's been uploaded and the Mac line breaks are still there.

I've tried everything I can find in the application to force it to use text mode when transferring but the problem persists.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

Unlike FTP, most SFTP servers do not support automatic translation of line endings, so they just get left as what they were on the Mac when you upload them. This is fine for most people, but we realize that there are some people who would like a different behavior.

So, there is a "secret" preference that you can set in Fetch to change what happens with line endings in SFTP.

To set the preference, quit Fetch, run the Terminal application, and type in the following:

defaults write com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch SFTPUploadTextEOLStyle -int x

Replace the "x" at the end with one of the following numbers, depending on what you'd like:

0: Leave line endings alone (the default)
1: Change line endings to CR
2: Change line endings to LF
3: Change line endings to CRLF

And press return at the end. Then run Fetch again.

I hope this helps, and let us know if you have further questions. Thanks,
