Lost Line Breaks problem (redux) (2 posts)

I know this has come up in the past, but I've looked through the past recommendations and am still stymied.

I edit my files in AppleWorks and save as text. When the files are uploaded to the server, I can see the line breaks via the Fetch "viewer" tool. The same goes for "view source" in the browser (Safari).

When I pull the file back to my desktop, however, the line breaks disappear. Logic would hold that the download preference is the problem, but I've tried all different settings. What am I missing?

    Hi,

What program are you using to view the file after you download it again? It's possible that program is removing the line breaks when you open the file again (AppleWorks will do this).

Also, are you giving your file a .txt extension or some other extension that belongs to text files (such as .html)? If they do not have an extension that Fetch recognizes as a text file, Fetch will download them as Binary files, and not perform line ending conversion on download, which may confuse some programs. You can force Fetch to download files as text by choosing Remote > Format > Text before downloading.

Let us know if this helps, or if you have more questions.

    Thanks,
