    can i use fetch to link directly from one computer to another, as a way of sending files as quick as possible over the net? scuse my ignorance, if not fetch, what?

    It can be tricky to do that because most personal machines on the Internet are behind Network Address Translation (NAT) devices, and going through them involves setting up port forwarding and firewall exceptions.

    I believe that Timbuktu from Netopia has features built-in to navigate NAT and firewalls; you might give that a try.
