FTP (the protocol used by Fetch) does not have any concept of MIME types; so that isn't the problem, at least not directly.
Blank lines are usually caused by differences in the end-of-line characters between different operating systems. Fetch translates between these characters if you are downloading in text mode (either by choosing "Text" from the Mode pop-up menu or by choosing "Automatic" and downloading a file with a suffix that identifies it as text).
You should be sure to upload Perl scripts in Text format, so that the line endings will be correct.

that still doesn't really help. I've been using fetch since the beginning and have never had a problem until now! I just recently upgraded to the "commercial" version of it, and have bounced between pc's and macs for FTP for a long time and it JUST started happening...to top it all off, I wanted to go back to my trusty old version of Fetch and it seems to be affecting every copy I try to install back on my OS...any further insight would be awesome thanks

Let's try to fix one problem at a time. Could you download an HTML file and then post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window, along with the URL of the HTML file and a description of what looks wrong?

I finally resolved it.. a co-worker on a PC
here had an old text editor that was jacking with the formatting etc.. it "looked"
like a fetch issue because it would only
show up on my machine AFTER I'd downloaded it via fetch- coupled with the
CGI issues it seemed the likely culprit
especially since I'd just gotten it! Thanks
for the quick response/help...

1) I'm having severe problems with the downloading of "some" html files coming back with double, triple, and multiple spaced lines of HTML, and then 2) the uploading of Perl scripts is causing problems as well.
I don't really see where to address MIME types in preferences- any clues?? thanks!!
