Misleading Error Message on FTP to VMS (3 posts)

    If the Mac filename contains illegal VMS filename characters e.g. comma or slash, then Fetch 4.0.1 reports "not logged in" in an alert box.
    Not a biggie, now I know what caused it.

    Thanks for that report. I would be interested to see the contents of the Fetch Transcript window (it's listed in the Window menu). That might help me fix this message.

    Looks like VMS lies to you. On VMS 7.2 the transcript shows
    STOR jimtthews
    530 Login incorrect.
    ftp_store_setup: -30000 (state == RPUT_SETTING_UP)

    However, on a 7.1 system, it created a file named JIM_MATTHEWS.; quite happily.

    7.2 has a new IP implementation and optional support for a larger character set for filenames, which we do not have enabled. Looks like either we have it set up poorly or it's a VMS bug. I get so confident that VMS never has bugs that I did not test as closely as I should have before blaming Fetch. Sorry.
