moving web domain question (3 posts)

    Hello folks,
I have registred my web domain with a domain registry company. When I had opened an account with a web hosting company, they moved my domain into their hosting server. Now, I have 2 questions. In case I will decide to change a hosting company in the future, how would I move my domain? Would I move it from this present hosting company or would I have to go back to the original registry company where my domain is registred? And secondly, how would I actually do it. Is it done by Fetch?
Thank you so much for any input or advise.
    Cheers

    Hi John,

This sounds like a question you should ask the domain registry company, or your hosting provider. If you change hosting providers and want to keep the same domain name, the official record of which server should be looked at when someone types your domain name needs to be updated. (There are master servers on the Internet that keep this information.) Either your hosting company or the registry company would be the folks to do that.

Fetch's only part in this would be helping you move your webpages from one server to another. You could use Fetch to download your webpages from one server, store them on your Macintosh, and then upload them to the new server. It's always a good idea to keep a current copy of your webpages in a folder on your Macintosh as a backup.

I hope this helps clarify things.

    Thanks,
