My files are not in my Transfer Window! (6 posts)

    My files have disappeared from my transfer window. I have tried to change folders because obviously I have to be in the wrong folder considering none of my files are here, but when I do i get an error message saying the following:

    Fetch could not open the folder "/krowe/frontroweinc.com/" because the FTP server says that the requested item could not be accessed.

    If you entered a file or folder name or URL, check that is correct.
    Server responded: "/krowe/frontroweinc.com: The system cannot find the path specified.

    Please help. This is my companies website and I need to make configurations immediately or I will hear it hard from my boss.

    Hi Chris,

    First, I would make sure that Fetch is not showing you an out-of-date file list when you're looking at the folder you think the files are supposed to be in.

    You can do this by going to Fetch's View menu, and choosing Refresh. If you still don't see the files, then you can move on to looking elsewhere for them.

    (Fetch sometimes caches file lists locally in order to speed up their display. While it is designed to notice changes to file lists and get a fresh list when there are changes, on rare occasions the algorithm Fetch uses makes a mistake and shows you an out-of-date file list, which may not include all your files and folders. Choosing Refresh forces Fetch to make sure its file list is up-to-date.)

    My guess is the reason you are getting that error when you try to change to that particular folder is that you do not have permission to view the contents of that folder - servers can be set up so that only certain people have permission to view certain folders. So it may be that you don't have permission to view that folder; in that case, there would be nothing Fetch would do about that, you'd have to talk to the people who run the server to see if that's the case and if they could give you permission to view that folder by FTP.

    If you want to send us a Fetch transcript, we can take a look and see if we have any additional suggestions. To do this:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try changing to the folder in question.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message or email them to bugs@fetchsoftworks.com .

    Thanks,

    Thanks Scott,

    It may be out of date. the only two files showing in my transfer window are old files in which i do not recall creating. I don't see why I wouldn't have permission to that folder. I created, put, and managed the folder from Fetch before. The transcript is below:

    Hi Chris,

    How are you changing to the "frontroweinc.com" folder? Do you see a "frontroweinc.com" folder in the file list, and you're double-clicking on it? Are you choosing the Go to Folder command from the Go menu?

    Or are you getting the error about not being able to file that folder as soon as you connect with Fetch?

    Thanks,

    I was trying to get there from from the "Go" Tab. but I followed your earluer directions and now the frontroweinc.com folder isn't there for selection anymore nor is it in recent or the paths button anymore.

    Thanks.

    Hi Chris,

    The problem seems to be that there isn't a folder named "frontroweinc.com" on the server, at least not in the folder you're looking for it - which is why the server gives an error when you ask Fetch to go to it.

    You could look in the aspnet_client folder to see if it's there (but I'd be surprised).

    One possibility is that you need to use a different username to connect to the server with; often, each username on a server gets their own "home" folder and sees a different set of files and folders. So maybe you need to log in with a different username to access the "frontroweinc.com" folder.

    Unfortunately, I don't think there's much other advice we can give - it looks like Fetch is showing you all the files that are there for the username "krowe", and Fetch cannot go to folders that are not there, and it cannot help tell you if the folder is accessible if you used a different username.

    So, you should double-check and see if there is a different username you can try connecting to the server with, but otherwise, I think you'll need to talk to the company or person who runs the server to figure out what's going on, where the folder is, and how to access it.

    Please let us know if you have further questions after trying that.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire
