So it seems I am having the same issue as others - my new site I created in Dreamweaver on my Mac is not coming up as the new site after I have put it in Fetch. It's still coming up as the old one someone else did. What am I doing wrong? I have tried making a public_html file and also not having one and that didn't seem to work. My site is www.phoshilaron.org. Here is the transcript.

    Hi Karen,

When I go to that website all I see is a big grey rectangle. Is that what you see too?

And there does not appear to be a public_html folder on the server anymore; did you delete it since you sent your message?

It's possible that your site does not require that you put your files in a folder named public_html; not all sites require that, so that may be why it didn't help.

I would try the following: make sure you have an index.html file as part of your new webpage, then just connecting to your server, and uploading the files directly there.

If it is still not working after that, let us know and we'll try to figure out why not.

    Thanks,

Yes, for some reason the person who made the original website can't get it to upload correctly anymore as of about a month ago. That's why I need to get the new site up that I did!

I do have an index.html file and you are probably right about not needing a public_html folder. But how do I just upload my files to the server? I use Go Daddy for my hosting site, so do I need to do anything on their site or how would I go about just uploading my files? Sorry I'm not too familiar with this yet! Thank you.

    Hi Karen,

Using the "Put" command in Fetch is the same as "uploading."

    So what I meant was:

    * Connect to your site using Fetch, as you have before.
    * Once Fetch is showing the list of files on your site, click the Put button, and select your new website's files in the dialog that comes up, and click the Put button at the bottom of the dialog.
    * Or, once Fetch has connected and is showing the list of files, just drag your new website's files from your Macintosh to the Fetch window. That will start uploading them too.

In other words, don't try to create or change folders after you connect with Fetch - just put/drag the files to the window you see once Fetch is done connecting.

Let us know how this goes.

Please forgive me for my ignorance, but I have been just opening up Fetch and then Putting my new files, I don't know if I know how to connect to my site using Fetch...should I have files there from the old version of the site? I didn't make it so I'm not sure if that's a problem.

Should I not Put a folder with all my HTML files in it, rather should I be Putting individual files on Fetch?

I know I'm so close, but I just seem to be missing something!

    Thanks,
    Karen

No, you do not need to have the files from the old version of the site there. And if you do, it's probably not a problem.

Should I not Put a folder with all my HTML files in it, rather should I be Putting individual files on Fetch?

This may be the source of your problem. You want to Put all the contents of the folder, but not the folder itself.

In the Put dialog, where you choose the files to put, open the folder with your HTML files in it, and then use the shift key while clicking to select all the files inside the folder. If there are more folders inside that folder, that's okay - leave those alone - but you do not want the main folder itself.
