newbie question--what folder to upload files to (3 posts)

  Sorry for the newbie question.
  I have uploaded both wordpress and a theme where I THINK they go, but neither are showing up on my site.
  How do you know where to put files?
  I don't understand the difference between cgi-bin and home and htdocs. If there is a set place for each type of file or folder, how do you know what it is?

  Hi Kim,

  The "right" place to put files and folders is different from server to server so it is difficult for us to give specific advice. We recommend that you contact the people or company who run your server for help with your question; they can best answer for your particular server and explain the purpose of each folder.

  In regards to WordPress, aWordPress support forum may also be a better place to ask questions about how to arrange WordPress files after uploading them; we are not very familiar with WordPress setup.
