There is no problem conncecting using Fetch 4.0.3 via Comcast client, but seems there is with AOL v10.3 running OS10.2.6. Keyword: ftp works, but not Fetch. Is this an AOL wonky? TIA

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see a problem? Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to reveal the transcript.

    Thanks,

oops..just noticed the 'Post Reply'..new to these boards. thanks Jim. Here is the transcript, also I use the Passive mode. For Host: members.aol.com-ID: ftp Password:znoz@aol.com (email address) there are 7 folders that pop up: .welcome-bin-dev-etc userscgi.txt-users.FAQ.txt-usr. I've seen those before, but have reconnected in the past and have gotten my hm directory: znoz. Not lately tho. Thanks for any help: Doug

The problem is that the AOL FTP server does not recognize that you're dialed into AOL, so it is treating you like a guest rather than giving you access to your AOL web space.

I'm not sure why this is happening (I just tried Fetch dialed into AOL on an OS X 10.2 machine and it worked). Could you check the Network Pane of System Preferences? Look at each of the interfaces in the pop-up menu (such as Internal Modem, Built-in Ethernet) and see what IP addresses are listed (do this while dialed into AOL). What do you see?

    Thanks,

Hi Jim. First I do run LAN w/ Asante router (cable) the Network tabs: TCP/IP 192.168.123.108-same screen-Router 192.168.123.254. PPPoE ->dimmed out. Apple Talk disabled (now) Proxies-L>Passive mode enabled. AOL connects ISP/LAN Connection. When launching Fetch (AOL active) click shortcut and members.aol.com screen pops up. Not my files/folders, but odd ones appear: bin, dev, etc, sbin, usr, few others. If I click 'Get' (Enter the name or URL of the file or diredctory to get: and type in screen name znoz, my files DLoad to desktop and 'all' my files and folders are there w/ incoming. Also the Fetch screen has my znoz, /, incoming available on the dropdown menu. Hope this has helped, and thanks.

Jim..all is working now. Used the Fetch File menu->Recent Connections->AOL FTP Space (for AOL) after the directory screen pops up went Fetch's Directories menu->and there were: /, /etc,/znoz (screen name), /incoming. Get & Put Files works now. Still odd to me why those unfamiliar files pop up first, .bin, dev, etc, but I'm happy it works. Can upload multiply files now. Thanks for hangin in there w/ all the members.

I'm glad it's working now. AOL's system for verifying an FTP user's identity seems fragile, and I do wish they'd switch to a more conventional username-and-password scheme.

    Thanks,

Hi Ed here. I'm the guy who started the post on AOL.

I tried the suggestion and I see everything properly but I still can upload, delete, etc. It's like Jim said, AOL is thinking I'm a guest not the real thing.

Since you got it working, is it still working? Perhaps it is a hit/miss thing.
