    Hi,
I've been using FETCH for a few yrs now. No problem at all w/ our cable co. storage. But can't connect to the older free AOL storage. We can connect using AOL's FTP software. We use to be able to use FETCH:
    Host: members.aol.com
    User: [screen name]
    Password: same as always
    Using: SFTP
    Using: PASV mode

    OSX 10.4.10--FETCH v5.2.1
I've searched high/low oogled for hrs and can't find the solution.
Is there a different protocl for AOL now that its free w/ broadband? TIA for help

    Hi Doug,

We have received several reports recently of folks being unable to connect to their AOL webspace.

We have investigated, and AOL has apparently changed something in their system, and now users cannot connect to their FTP space using third-party FTP clients such as Fetch. It seems, unfortunately, that the only way to get to it is to use AOL's FTP software. We do not know why AOL has made this change.

I wish we had a better answer for you. You may want to contact AOL and file a complaint.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi -Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply. And I was afraid your answer would be no fix at the time. As other AOL'ers have also had some snags. Just glad its not my only FTP storage space.
BTW..I did see AOL Q & A on Fetch's forum but it didn't address up to date snags.

Thank you again, and Fetch is the best !

    Hi Doug,

Yes, the AOL problems are quite recent - they only started about 2 weeks ago. We've been waiting a bit on updating the AOL FAQ entry, in hopes that AOL will fix something so it starts working again. But you're right, probably we should add a note that currently the listed solution doesn't work.

    Thanks,

Thanks for your follow up -Scott,
I'll try to find out more about AOL's changes to their FTP space and the havoc with 3rd party FTP clients. Then post back here for folks who might have an interest.
Too bad the big shots I knew at AOL yrs ago are no longer with them when it was Mac platform only.

    Thanks again,

    Hi -Scott,
For now Fetch is working with AOL's webspace and with multiple files I might add. The workaround was sent to me by an AOL member that also uses FTP clients:

    Hey folks,

The ops team that manages the AOL FTP is investigating the cause for the FTP problems that some people are experiencing. In the mean time, a member contacted our team and found a workaround that should work with other people.

Configure your FTP clients according to the following:

    Host name: ftp.hometown.aol.com
    Username: YourAOLScreenName
    Password: YourAOLPassword
    Server type: FTP

I caution this with the fact that it is only a workaround, and may not work for too long since it looks like it is pointing to an older FTP server. Worth a shot for those who are anxiously waiting to upload photos to their FTP space.

If this works for you, please let me know. :-)

    ~ Joseph

I hope this helps out some folks that still do use their AOL space and Fetch.

    Hi Doug,

Thanks for the tip. That does indeed work for me. We'll keep it in mind if anyone asks.
