This website page in Fetch <76.162.22.16-totalhealth.com> gives an "Error accessing files: Server responded: Transfer aborted. No space left on device." The page has an htdocs folder, but also has everything in that folder also showing on the page below, plus other folders: cgi-bin,cp,howards_books,images,webalizer,publ,store. Can I delete all those files & graphics NOT in ht docs (making sure htdocs has them all? Do I leave those other folders as is? Would that give me more space? I'm afraid to move anything, but want to upgrade my site. Howard

    Hi Howard,

At least some of the folders you list probably should not be deleted because they are important to the server (for example, cgi-bin). You should contact your hosting company to make sure which ones are okay to delete or not.

And before you delete anything, you should make sure you have a completely copy of your website on your Macintosh, so that you can upload it again if anything goes wrong.

    Thanks,

NEW: ix web hosting now tells me They recommend I delete all files which I uploaded to FTP account root because we do not allow file storage on their servers.

Will I still be able to upload using FETCH tho'? Shall I go ahead & delete the uploaded files from 76.162.22.16 - / ?

    Hi Howard,

Perhaps I misunderstand what you're asking, but your hosting company must allows some sort of file storage on their server - you need to store the files that make up your website, after all!

Could you please clarify what the problem is? Or perhaps clarify with them exactly what they mean?

    Thanks,

    Scott,

My Fetch page shows /cp, webalizer, /modlogin,/cgi-bin, htdocs and then a repeat of all the graphics and files INSIDE htdocs folder. My question was can I safely delete those duplicate graphics & files that show outside the htdocs folder; using the contents of htdocs fldr for uploading?

Following is the tech's aswer I received:

    Dear Howard,

Thank you for your word to support!
The following folders should not be deleted: /cp, /webalizer, /modlogan, /cgi-bin any other folder you can delete if you wish. We also recommend you to delete all files which you uploaded to FTP account root because we do not allow file storage on our servers.

Should you have any further questions please let us know we are available 24/7.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Howard,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, I think you can safely delete the repeats of all your graphics and files that appear outside the htdocs folder. (Just don't delete any of the files or folders that ix tech support said you should not, of course.)

While I believe that should be safe, as I said, please be sure that you have backup copies of your website files on your Macintosh just in case.

    Thanks,

    NEW PROBLEM, Scott:

OK, now that I've deleted all folders other than /cp,/webalizer,/modiogan,/cgi-bin, htdocs. BUT when I check the site, only "Index of /" appears as shown below. If I open htdocs, then everything inside opens as if it were the site. What now must I do? Copy all that's in htdocs again and put the copies OUTSIDE, like they were originally and then upload each?

    Index of /

ISSUE PARTIALLY RESOLVED: Scott, I re-installed on Fetch page for totlhealth files/graphics from another HD OUTSIDE the htdocs file and uploaded them. THAT fired up the website and it's easily readable now. I'd backed up before; now I'm back online. Now I need to tweak the site, 'cause some files are old-style; anyhow I'm operative, partly.
