I would check to see whether the "Translate ISO characters" checkbox in the Misc. section of Preferences has a different setting in Fetch 4.0.3 than it does in 3.0.3.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Jim,
Thanks for the tip, but it does not seem to apply. The only options for "Translate ISO Characters" in both versions are ON and OFF.
The box is marked ON in both versions.Al Burke

Could you choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents after you get the error in Fetch 4.0.3, and after you successfully upload the same file in Fetch 3.0.3?
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Could you also post the transcript from Fetch 3.0.3, uploading the same file?
Thanks,

It looks like Fetch 3.0.3 has the "Encode file and folder names" option checked in the Upload section of Preferences. Does it work if you check that option in 4.0.3?
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Jim,
That option has been ON the whole time. So the answer is, no, it does not help.

I'm very puzzled. When I turn on "Translate ISO Characters" and "Encode and decode file and folder names" in Fetch 4.0.3, and upload a file named Förlagsbrevet, I get the same transcript you are showing from Fetch 3.0.1:
STOR F%9arlagsbrevet
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for 'F%9arlagsbrevet'.
226 Transfer complete. The special character is encoded as %9a.
Could you double-check that "Encode and decode file and folder names" is checked in the Upload section of Preferences?
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

Hello, there!
Yes, it is (and has been) checked ON.

I don't know how to explain why you are seeing different behavior. Do you have Timbuktu? If you do I could use that to look at the problem remotely. Please send email to bugs @ fetchsoftworks.com if you'd like to pursue that option.
Thanks,
Jim Matthews

With Fetch 4.0.3, I cannot put files with names that include the Swedish characters ä, ö, å. The error message is that the "syntax" is wrong.
This problem did not arise with Fetch 3 (same computer, system, FTP server, etc.)
Is there a solution to this problem?
