For the past couple of years I have succeeded in building and maintaining a genealogy website with Fetch without the least bit of technical knowledge on tripod.co.uk.

However suddenly now my website has disappeared and when I try to enter my files I keep getting the response"Server response:Can't build data connection:connection timed out". I have previously always connected using ftp.tripod.co.uk but have now also tried ftp.members.lycos.co.uk but to no avail. Always the same. My website is at

Tripod does talk on its site about an FTP being set to "Passive Mode". I've never had to bother with this before but could this be why? And if so, how do I change it to passive mode. In other words, help! I'd appreciate any helpful feedback as I'm feeling frustrating and miserable about this and Tripod never reply. They are still in business as far as I know!

To turn on passive mode, check the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences.
