    I purchased a copy of fetch 4.0 & it worked great in OS9 (This copy of Fetch is version 4.0, released May 1, 2001). Now that I run under X, I am having trouble opening the application. I get the following error: The application “Fetch 4.0” could not be launched because of a shared library error: “”<fatcarbon 1.3?<fatcarbon 1.3><><>”.

    I purchased the copy in Aug 2001, do I need to upgrade?

    Yes, Mac OS X 10.1 broke Fetch 4.0 so you need Fetch 4.0.1. You can download it from http://fetchsoftworks.com. It's a free upgrade from 4.0 -- the same serial number works on both.

    Fetch 4.0.1 should automatically pick up the serial number from 4.0. If it doesn't you should be able to get the serial number by running 4.0 in Classic (select Fetch 4.0, choose Get Info..., check the run in Classic box) and choosing "About Fetch" from the Apple menu.

    i got 4.0 to run properly in the classic environment, but the serial number doesn't work for 4.0.1 (i have a copy liscenced to a university). even so, the demo of 4.0.1 will connect to the server, but will never get my file list.
    any suggestions for either problem?

    The serial number should work -- make sure you enter the same name as shown in the About Fetch box for 4.0.

    I would recommend unchecking the "Use Internet Config" box in the General section of Preferences and checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences.
