I want to use Fetch to transfer PDF files to and from my printer's FTP site, but the PDFs end up corrupted (I expect they're being transferred as text files. I can get round it by Stuffing them, but I'd like a better solution.

Should I set the upload to Raw Data and the download to Binary, or should I change the suffix mapping in the Internet Control Panel to Binary Data rather than Plain Text? I'm using Mac OS9.

You should definitely change the suffix mapping to Binary Data; it's a mistake that it was ever set to Plain Text. Once that is done you should be able to download in Automatic or Binary mode.

For uploading either Automatic or Raw Data should work.

    Thanks,
