Hi,
Fetch should be able to upload properly working PDFs to your server.
We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?
* Quit Fetch, if it's running.
* Open Fetch again.
* Connect to your server.
* Upload one of the problem PDFs.
* After the upload is complete, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
* Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message. We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

Hi John,
It looks from your transcript that Fetch is uploading your PDF in the correct format (as a binary file).
I see that after you uploaded it, you downloaded the PDF file using Fetch. Did the PDF you downloaded from Fetch look okay?
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

I uploaded the PDF in the automatic mode and it did not work. I downloaded it from the site and it was corrupted.
I uploaded the PDF in the Binary and it did work fine. I downloaded it from the site and it was not corrupted.
So it seems like the automatic mode is what is messing with the file.

Hi slickwade,
Under nearly all circumstances, PDFs file will upload correctly with Automatic mode. We are still investigating why your PDFs are not uploading correctly in Automatic mode, but it appears to be a special case. We recommend that users use Automatic mode for uploading PDF files (and all files), and if the uploads are not working correctly, to contact us and we will investigate and figure out the problem, as we are doing for you.
Based on his transcript, I believe John's problem is different from your problem, even if the symptoms appear similar.
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

Thanks to both slickwade and Scott, my problems have been resolved. I agree with Scott that it seems to be related to something about particular pdf files, since most files that I have uploaded work fine.

This is a rather new problem. I have used Fetch for a number of years and I always was able to upload PDf file without any problems. I think it started when I last updated Fetch if that helps any.

Scott McGuire Administrator
John, we're glad to hear your current problem is resolved - if you run into a problem again, let us know and we'll look into it.
Slickwade, thanks for the additional info. We continue to look into the last logs you sent us.
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

I am having the same problems using FETCH with a mac
use automatic mode
It uploads as a binary file
but it downloads as corrupted text rather than a pdf file
There must be something in the preference settings or elsewhere to repair this problem

Scott McGuire Administrator
Hi Debby,
We'd like some more information to help figure out what's going on.
When you say "it downloads as corrupted text rather than a pdf file," do you mean that happens when you download it with Fetch, or when you download it with your web browser?
Thanks,
Scott McGuire

PDF corrupt.
Upload a pdf to my ftp site. Download same PDF. Downloaded PDF is corrupt and shows no info. Took advice
fron above and uploaded in Binary instead of Automatic. Download PDF and all is fine. Automatic does not
seem to like PDFs.

Hi Chris,
Could you try these steps:
1. Quit Fetch
2. In the Finder, choose Home from the Go menu
3. Open the Library folder
4. Open the Preferences folder
5. Find the file named "com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist" and move it to the Desktop
6. Look for a file named "com.apple.internetconfig.plist"; if you find it, move it to the Desktop
7. Run Fetch and upload the PDF file that's been causing problems for you in Automatic format
8. Download the PDF file in your web browser, and check for corruptionThanks,
Jim Matthews

That worked. Should I just throw the two com. preferences mentioned about in the trash ?

When I upload PDF files to the server they do not work correctly when I try to download them with my web browser.
I have uploaded some with Filezilla and they work O.K. but with Fetch they do not work. Do you have any suggestions why they will not work with Fetch?
