You should not upload to the /bin directory. The root directory is the one called just "/". If you can't upload there your service provider must have set things up that way. I'd recommend contacting them to see if there's an alternative.

I have no problem uploading into webdocs folder, but when I try to upload to the /bin (root directory?) folder, I get a permission denied message. I want to upload some files to the root directory as, if I understand correctly, this is the place to upload files that I do not want to make available to all visitors to my website.
I thought maybe setting permissions would help, but I get a "SITE UMASK not understood" message. The transcript for the "permission denied" upload follows:
550 shalzeyes.jpg: Permission denied
ftp_store_setup: -30000 (state == RPUT_SETTING_UP)
ABOR
226 Abort successful
Thank You!
