Port mapping isn't usually an issue for using an FTP client like Fetch, it's an issue if you want to set up a server behind a device (like an Airport Base Station) that does Network Address Translation (aka NAT).
When you set up port mapping you are saying that when someone out on the Internet connects to a certain port on your Airport Base Station, you want that connection forwarded to a certain server computer on your network.
So I don't think this has anything to do with the problems you're having with Fetch.

I spoke an length with Apples Tech support, and they blame everyother piece of software I have on my FTP problem. The tech mentioned port mapping, and that might be the cause. I have no idea what port mapping means, so can some one educate me, and instruct me on how to config port mapping using fetch?
Thank you
