A colleague placed a file made with "Create Archive of files..." onto a server at work. When I Fetched the file, the expanded folder contained two folders, one named __MACOSX and one the correct name for the original folder. The documents in that folder showed as Unix Executables, and a Classic application showed as a generic document.

Taking the exact same file via Safari, as a URL, downloaded and expanded the files ok.

The above in itself isn't so important right this second, no doubt there's some Fetching setting I have wrong. What I'm more concerned about is that I transferred a large (1.2GB over about four hours) archive file up to the server, and taken from the server over the network at work the archive seems messed up.

Can you imagine what setting I must have wrong to cause a __MACOSX folder to be made on download, and is there hope for fixing the large file I uploaded without me uploading again?

Is it possible that the archive was expanded (after downloading) by StuffIt Expander instead of the Finder's helper application (called BOMArchiveHelper)? That might explain why the archives were not expanded correctly.

As long as you uploaded the archive in Automatic or Raw Data format it should be correct.

    Thanks,
