Prevent Fetch from decompressing downloaded .ZIP files in Automator (2 posts)

    I use an Automator script to downloads files from a distant FTP server to my Mac for backup purpose. The files have the .ZIP extension.

    When the file is downloaded, I'm asked for the password the ZIP file have been encrypted with, but I don't want the file to be decompressed, only downoaded and saved to a folder.

    Is it possible to accomplish this ?

    Hi,

    It sounds like you want to turn off Fetch's automatic decompression feature.

    You can do this by:

    * Open Fetch.
    * Go to the Fetch menu, and choose Preferences.
    * Click the Download tab.
    * Uncheck "Allow automatic decoding of downloaded files"

    Then Fetch will never try to decompress or decode files when downloading.

    You can also disable automatic decoding for just certain kinds of files (so, for instance, just zip files) if you want. See our decoding files automatically help topic for instructions on how to do that.

    Let us know if you have more questions.

    Thanks,
