having trouble getting files uploaded to a windows server. fetch (and all other ftp clients for that matter) chokes on directory listings, and chokes at the end of file on uploads, with both text and image files. this happens with 2 servers, both windows. never have problems with any other servers. i have insisted to the admins that there may be a config error on their part, but i get shrugged off as a mac idiot. any advice on what i can look for on my end, or what i should tell them to look for on theirs?

I would recommend toggling the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" checkbox in the Firewall section of Preferences. If that does not help please post a transcript (choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu to reveal it) after you see the problem.

    Thanks,

    thanks jim

PASV doesn't seem to make much difference, and i have tried toggling just about everything. i am now pretty sure it is their ftp server. i went in thru a warftpd server to the same directories, and it worked (almost) flawlessly.

btw - does PASV in fetch prefs override the network setting (in OSX.1.5)? or should they both be set the same?

i did notice some really strange things in the transcript, which i have been keeping an eye on. i will post some snippets from tomorrow's sessions. the admin has mentioned a "timing" issue, but i'm not sure what that means. things are a lot better at night when not as many people are hitting the machine.

Yes, Fetch keeps its own setting on OS X.
