Since upgrading to 10.4 yesterday - I've been unable to connect to any ftp site, no matter how I configure network & sharing prefs, short of disabling the firewall completely. With my firewall off - Fetch works perfectly.

Otherwise, after a prolonged wait with "status=getting file list" it eventually errors out with "server response: unable to build data connection: connection timed out". Enabling PASV has no effect.

    Any ideas?

If you have "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" unchecked in the Firewall section of Fetch's Preferences dialog, then you definitely need to have the OS X firewall turned off. Most servers will work fine with "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" checked, but some don't, and in those cases you have to turn off the OS X firewall.

Note that Fetch only cares about the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" setting in Fetch's Preferences window. It does not care about the setting in the System Preferences Network pane.

    Thanks,

    That was it!

I was trying w/ PASV in the system pref pane - enabling it in Fetch prefs immediately took care of the problem.

    Thanks!
