If the server does not support the SITE CHMOD command then you won't be able to change file permissions with Fetch (or any other FTP client). I would suggest contacting the server administrator and asking them how they recommend people change permissions.

I can't seem to set permissions either for upload or on a file that is on my ftp site. I keep getting errors messages that the command is not understood.
For example, I created a directory on the ftp site called "data" The permissions are 777. I'd like to change it to 755. However, when I select "data", then select Set Permissions, I get the following error:
Server Response: 'SITE CHMOD 755 data': command not understood
Please help.
