Mac OS X uses a different system for deciding what application to launch (previous OS releases used the desktop database). One suggestion is to delete the files that start ".LS" (for Launch Services) in the Library/Preferences folder in your home directory. Then log out, log in, and run the X version of BBEdit. That should be the equivalent of rebuilding the desktop, and choosing the X version as preferred; but your mileage may vary.

I have both the Classic and OS X versions of
BBEdit. Fetch always tries to open the
remote files for editing with the classic
version even though it is running under OS X.
How can I force it to use the correct
version of BBEdit?
